In many cases, it is the scenery that makes a place unforgettable: 18 km of coastline with crystal clear waters, beaches with ever different settings, inlets and coves encrusted into the rock, seabed fauna and flora that have nothing to envy of the Caribbean seas. We are in Sardinia, right in the north of the island, in a central location in relation to the many fascinating places around the Aglientu area.
From the Torre di Vignola beach which gives its name to the homonymous tourist resort just a few minutes drive from our hotel to the beach of "Rena Bedda", from "Chijinajjhiu" to "Naracu Nieddu", from "Cala Serraina" and "Cala Pischina" to "Rena di Matteu" up to "Rena Majore ". These are just a few of the places to be discovered and experienced, to which you can dedicate your free time during your next holiday in Sardinia.
From Santa Maria rural tourism both Isola Rossa and Costa Paradiso are also easily accessible, as well as of course Santa Teresa di Gallura with its daily connections with the port of Bonifacio. A good reason to consider dedicating a day to a trip to Corsica or to visit the Maddalena archipelago and the islets of Spargi, Santa Maria, Razzoli and Budelli, which are reachable only by private boat and virtually uninhabited.
In particular, in neighbouring Vignola Mare you can experience exciting scuba diving with help from qualified diving centres; go horseback riding through charming countryside, where the narrow paths can be discovered with enchanting interest; practice water sports like windsurfing, water skiing and kite surfing.
For lovers of history and past human cultures, the evidence of a long succession of civilizations and dominations will be of considerable interest. Sardinia is in fact in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, it has over time enjoyed its strategic geographical position that has placed it in the cradle of development of human civilization, making it a real archaeological paradise.
Human presence in the territory of Aglientu has left an indelible mark.
Among all there are 18 "Nuraghes", which have been classified as world heritage since 1997. These are stone towers with a conical trunk shape and are unique in their type. We suggest you write down the names of the "Tuttusoni", "Finucchjaglia" and "Cugara" nuraghes (dated between 1800 and 1000 BC), located along the coastal strip running from Portobello to Rena Majore and used in ancient times as fortified dwellings and lookouts or as shelters in times of danger.
Also interesting is the “Torre Di Vignola” (Vignola Tower), dating back to 1600 AD (hence the name of the beach opposite), which formed the defensive system that was built for warnings and to get word out along the coastline of the island during Aragonese and Spanish domination. Today, its privileged position allows us to enjoy a magnificent view over the sea and the coastline, ranging from the beach of Vignola below, to the more distant beaches of "lu litarroni", "naracu nieddu", "monti russu" until reaching in the distance the tip of Capo Testa and on cloudless days, the white cliffs of southern Corsica.
The places of worship in the surrounding area are well worth a mention: the San Francesco d’Assisi parish, located in Aglientu, built in 1965 to replace an older one dating back to the 700’s; the smaller and typical churches of Santa Maria (hence the name of our hotel), San Biagio, San Giovanni, San Silverio, San Pancrazio.
There are numerous interesting cultural events and festivals throughout the summer in Aglientu that fascinate tourists looking for traditional flavours. The celebration of the patron saint is held on 4th October.
